With no league games scheduled until the 22nd Jan a friendly was just what we needed to get back into it coming off the back of a good run of form before Xmas. Our opponents were Poole town Wessex united, a team we had played before, winning 2-1. With everyone available including our new signings since the start of the season a new team picture was in order so everyone played
The game started well with alfie scoring after just 4 minutes, running onto a good through-ball from Kieran and finishing well.
Both teams then settled into the game, with Broadstone having most of the possession. It stayed 1-0 until 'third-time'. With so many subs to make we played 3 x 20 mins. This is when the experimentation began, having used all 5 subs a slightly different formation was used and Tommy took position between the sticks for only the second time. The stones started this 3rd well, again having more of the ball and creating good chances. We went 2 up after George's driven clearance turned into an excellent through- ball to send Tyler on his way, he kept his calm well and found the bottom corner.
5 minutes before 'third time' and Poole had begun to put pressure on our defence, and unfortunately won a penalty after a rash tackle. Tommy made himself big and guessed correctly, and was fortunate to see the ball roll past the post.
Third time and another 5 substitutions made, again varying the formation slightly. Thomas, who had played in goal for us a couple of times last year, stepped up to go in goal for the first time this season. The near miss for Poole seemed to have woken us up as we started the last third very well, determined to finish the game off and keep a clean sheet. After 5 minutes Kieran's shot from close range was saved by the keeper, but fell to the feet of Tyler who converted the chance well to put us 3 up. The last 15 minutes were managed well by Broadstone, giving very few chances to Poole but Thomas did well when he was needed. Man of the match went to Tyler for a strong performance both upfront and in midfield.
