Another strong performance from the U11 Colts this week. The lads started well, putting high pressure on Poole Town and defending well when they needed to, with George only having a couple of basic saves to make in the first 15 minutes. Ben played especially well in a defensive midfield role, protecting our defence excellently and playing some good passes when he had the ball himself. Next came our first goal, a brilliant counter attacking move led by Tommy, getting from one end of the pitch to the other with 4 quick passes. Alfie did well to play a 1-2 on the half way line with Tommy and then showed excellent desire to get into the box to finish off the move. Our first shot from Sam was saved by the keeper but Alfie then finished well after a small slice of luck when the keeper's parry fell to his feet. We continued to play well for the remaining 15 minutes of the half, George had a relatively quiet time with little to do, we created a few chances, with several shots blocked in the box. The half finished 1-0 to the stones, with the message to continue as we had in the first half, there was also a big change for the team with Tommy wanting to try his hand at Goalkeeping, and George playing outfield for the first time in nearly a year, although in a different position to what he is used to, playing in centre back, and both players did very well. Unfortunately we had a slow start to the second half and 5 minutes in Poole Town had equalised after a strong solo run down our left hand side, Tommy made an excellent first save however like our first goal, his parry fell back to the attackers feet who had a simple tap in. After this Broadstone stepped up their game, with George and Ollie playing well in the centre, putting in strong tackles and good headers to stop Poole Town from breaking down the middle. It was a very competitive half with Broadstone having the majority of the attacking play. 10 minutes from time we changed to a back 3, putting 2 up front to try to find the goal that our play had deserved. Our efforts were rewarded 5 minutes from time, when an excellent corner from Kieran found George in front of the near post, who guided a superb looping header over the opposition keeper and a player on the line. We stayed strong and focused for the last few minutes of the game, seeing out a good result well.
Man of the match went to Ben for some excellent midfield work, it was a fantastic performance from everyone and it's great to have 2 wins on the bounce going into what is sure to be a very difficult game agaisnt Gillingham this week. Courtesy of the opposition, who videod the game, here are our two goals. Well done boys!!
