In only our second game since Xmas the colts produced another thrilling match this afternoon. Having drawn 3-3 with wool the first time we played them in the league after being 2-0 down, and beating them in the cup 3-0 the lads were confident of continuing to improve how they played against a strong team. Despite this confidence the game didn't start well, we found ourselves 2-0 down after 15 minutes. However yet again the team showed amazing spirit and attitude, continuing to work hard even after the early set back. With just under 15 minutes left of the half the colts started to get a foothold in the game, becoming much more creative going forward finding holes in the wool defence. Our first goal came in the 23rd minute when Tyler found sam with a great pass who slotted the ball beyond the keeper well. In the remaining 7 minutes the colts really controlled the game and scored twice more to go into half time 3-2 up, with alfie playing an excellent through ball to Tyler who stayed calm as the keeper rushed towards him and finished well into the bottom corner. Our 3rd was volleyed home by Joseph after an excellent cross from Sam. The half time team talk was all about staying focused defensively after a similar game against wool first time around saw us only come away with a draw. The team did this excellently for the first 15 minutes, absorbing lots of pressure from Wool and finding the net twice on the counter attack both times through sam who finished excellently after being set up by George and Kieran. On the 50th minute Wool converted after pinball in the box fell to the strikers feet 6 yards from goal. This just increased our need to stay alert defensively and we did so well seeing the game out to a 5-3 win.
Man of the Match went to Sam for his excellent goals and tireless work rate throughout game, even when he played out of position at RB!
Reflecting on the game we need to improve on keeping possession when under pressure as Wool had most of the ball in the second half however on the flip side we did well to defend against it as well as we did.
Well done boys!!
