BFC U11 Colts 2-4 Gillingham Town Youth

Our final game of the season saw us go up against a team who beat us 9-1 in the reverse fixture near the start of the season.
The players knew this was always going to be a difficult game, but went into it feeling positive, wanting to end the season on a high.
The colts started well, keeping the ball and passing round Gillingham's high pressure. In the 8th minute josh played a ball in behind Gillingham's defence which Alfie ran onto before lobbing the keeper with an excellent composed chip.
After this Gillingham had more of the ball and put our defence under a lot of pressure which the boys dealt with well. In the 20th minute it looked as if Gillingham's pressure would pay off, with a mistimed tackle giving them a penalty, however George guessed correctly to keep us in the lead.
With less than a minute until half time Tyler was rewarded for his high pressing when a poor touch from a Gillingham midfielder saw the ball fall to Tyler's feet, he turned and shot quickly and a small deflection off of a Gillingham defender saw the ball loop over the keeper to send us into half time 2-0 up.
The boys were extremely pleased at half time but knew Gillingham were going to come out into the second half all guns blazing.
This was the case and we held strong for the first 10 minutes of the second half seeing out multiple Gillingham attacks. Gillingham's first goal came from an unexpected situation, a free kick from just inside our half found its way through everyone in the box and beat the keeper to give Gillingham the boost they needed. What followed was 15 minutes of extremely high pressure from Gillingham which saw them score 3 goals, however the colts can be extremely proud of the numerous chances they prevented Gillingham from converting, in a much better way than they did at the start of the season against this team.
Despite the game finishing with a 4-2 defeat all of the players should be very happy with how they played, yet again showing huge improvement from the start of the season and a brilliant attitude throughout the match, regardless of the scoreline!
