This week saw the return of the league plate fixtures for the U11 Colts. Having been placed in the top group for the plate competition against teams 2 or 3 divisions above us in the league we were determined to continue our unbeaten run. Our first test was against Dorchester town Stars. The first half was largely uneventful with neither team creating much in the way of chances, and both having good spells of possession and pressure. The two stand out moments of the half came from us, both from sam, firstly smashing the bar with a weak foot volley from outside the box, and then beating two players and getting a shot away from just inside the box, only to see his shot come off the post.
In the second half the first 15 minutes continued in much the same way, with both teams sharing time in the ascendancy. Then in the 45th minute Dorchester scored a brilliant header from a corner, neither defender or keeper could do anything about it. However the Colts didn't let their heads drop and continued fighting to get a much deserved goal. With 10 minutes left Ollie was pushed into midfield, to change the formation to have 3 at the back. We piled on the pressure but it didn't seem we would find a way through, until 1 minute from time sam and alfie combined well, with the latter laying a pass off to Ollie, who's shot from outside the box squeezed under the keeper for our equaliser.
The Dorch manager agreed a draw was a fair result although we were very unfortunate not to go ahead in the first half.
Man of the match went to Ollie for his excellent work rate all over the pitch, and his equalising goal.
It is clear that our Plate run isn't going to be easy but with such a brilliant attitude there's no reason the Colts can't do well.
